RESUMO
A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo conhecer as representações sociais que o enfermeiro elabora de sua relação com o paciente e compreender o processo de sua elaboração na articulação da afetividade, cognição e ação. Os dados foram colhidos por meio de entrevistas semi-estruturadas, e a população constou de 17 enfermeiros, de Unidades de Terapia Intensiva, de três hospitais da cidade de São Paulo. A análise dos dados revelou que a dificuldade na relação parece não estar na representação que o enfermeiro tem do paciente, mas sim, naquilo que os enfermeiros acreditam que deva ser a enfermagem. O grande impedimento em se estabelecer uma relação qualitativa e afetiva com o paciente, é a questão temporal e não o tipo de hospital em que se trabalha, o horário do plantão ou até mesmo o sexo do enfermeiro. Os enfermeiros encontram-se tensos, confusos e solitários, em busca de um equilíbrio entre o cuidado técnico e humano prestados ao paciente.
The purpose of the present research is to know the social representation the nurse eleborates of his/her relationship with the patient and also understands the process of its elaboration in the articulation of the affection, cognition and action. The data was gathered by means of semi-structured interviews and the population consisted of 17 nurses of Intensive Care Units of 3 hospitals in the city of São Paulo. The analysis of data revealed that the difficulty in the Nurse/Patient relationship seems not to be linked to the representation the nurse elaborates towards the patient, but in the nurse's own conception of what Nursing is. The great impediment to establish a qualitative and affectionate relationship with the patient is the temporal issue and not the kind of hospital one works at, neither the timetable or, even, the nurse's sex. The nurses are tense, confused and feel lonely, in seach of a balance between the technical and human care given to the patient.
